*Now feeling a bit tired even if I kept yesterday off to ensure freshness. Legs feel like they've been working - of course it is the work but perhaps also a resistance to the need to change from being marathon legs to being 1500 m legs they are forced to cope with.

You probably need to keep the speed going at the right tempo and shorten the runs rather than try to keep the distance and go slower. It is the speed that counts. There is bound to be resistance all over the body as you get more tired but it will go after rest or a few easy days. The body will resist the change for a period before it accepts the new movement. If you are tired again tomorrow then only train in the morning and do not train again until saturday afternoon. Then go fast again
