The difficulty at this stage of the season is getting the balance between trying to develop high speed and going into lactate too soon in the session. When doing repetitions it is really immportant to get the best possible result from each run. This means taking risks and finding the balance of speed and distance that will allow development to take place. These last runs are not fast enough and you must trey to run at least the first run as fast as you can achieve for the distance. If you do not do this then you will not stimulate the enzyme changes needed - at that speed.

Thanks,

OK - I did not understand that from the programme - programme said I should try to develop high speed cruising (I’m talking about the session planned for the second Saturday, which I did on Monday) – I understood it as 800 m cruising and according to the standard I’m on right now 42.5 and 28 are about right for that (a bit faster than race speed).

I take it I misunderstood – I should have tried to develop max speed cruising (for the particular distance) – not for 800 m. (The volume of 300 / 200 / 200 / 300 is too small to be a 800 m session – isn’t it[?] – is should have figured it out by myself.)

Next time when I have this few reps I will run as fast as I can.

That is right. But you live and learn. It is always better to underdo the session than overdo it. Remember that 800m is controlled aggression and ALWAYS has elements of near maximum speed and maximum effort. If you are not happy at cruising near top speed or 100% effort than you fold quickly. The sooner you get used to them both the better,
